IN THE BEGINNING
1884 – 1957 JACOB MORTENSEN

In the hometown of Durup, Denmark, Jacob founded his own saddle making and upholstery shop.
1907-1997 EYVIND MORTENSEN
After a fire destroyed Jacob’s factory, a new location was chosen in town and Jacob’s sons opened the Durup Upholstered Furniture Factory.
1931 – KAI MORTENSEN
FOOTHILLS UPHOLSTERY/INTERIORS BY KAI MORTENSEN
Immigrating to Canada in 1957, it didn’t take Kai long to follow tradition and open his own upholstery shop in Calgary. Foothills Upholstery – later know as Interiors by Kai Mortensen continued to be a well-known and respected high-end furniture store until Kai’s retirement in 2008.
THE TRADITION CONTINUED
1970’S – JOHN MORTENSEN & JOHN KRISTENSEN KAMOR FURNITURE LTD.
In 1976, following long-standing family tradition John Mortensen and John Kristensen, nephew and uncle respectively ventured out and
opened their own upholstered furniture shop. Then known as Kamor Furniture Ltd., they began by exclusively supplying Interiors by Kai
Mortensen with residential furniture. 1980’s During the early 1980’s the gradual transition from residential to commercial seating had begun.
Executive chairs, reception area seating and custom creations quickly became Kamor Furniture’s forte.
1990’s Eventually residential furniture was removed all together from Kamor Furniture’s factory. The objective was focused on ergonomic office and boardroom seating.
Still, a family-owned and operated company – following five generations of furniture makers and upholsterers before us.
